Biography

After a twenty year long career in Information Technology, I decided it was time for a new chapter. In early 2017, I completely changed my life and quit working in corporate America shortly before my 40th birthday. The goal? Pursue a dream of visiting every country in the world and you’re invited to follow along.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia in September 2015.

When this blog started in December 2017, I had traveled a decent amount already and was well on my way around the world. Some posts were never written and many of the major trips have articles that were written recently from memory after the fact. You can find out more about my list of countries on the Frequently Asked Questions page. Sometimes the boundary of a sovereign nation isn’t always easy to define and there is a very complex answer to “How many countries are there in the world?”

While only holding a U.S. passport may pose a challenge reaching some parts of the world, that is part of the excitement and the lure. Many people holding only U.S. citizenship have achieved the goal of visiting every country on the planet so it’s certainly possible.

You can sign up for email alerts when a new trip is posted by clicking here. Don’t worry, I won’t spam your email or give it to anyone. You’ll only receive a message when I have made a new trip post and you can easily unsubscribe permanently anytime. Speaking of trips, you can view my upcoming and planned trips, view the previously visited countries list with links to their blog posts, and view my not yet visited countries page. They’re all kind of cool. 🙂

Finally, there is also another much more personal story on the Who Is Mike? page. It doesn’t relate to travel per-se, but if you want to spend twenty minutes reading, it might just save the life of someone you love.

Back to travel: The primary goal is to cross the finish line by the end of 2042 (before my 65th birthday) and joining an elite club of travelers that can claim they’ve been everywhere on the planet.

So c’mon, let’s go!
